Maharashtra is one of richest states in the western region of India. Ruins, monuments, tombs, forts and places of worship left by the different rulers of ancient and medieval times are dotted around the state. These include the World Heritage Sites of Ajanta caves and Ellora caves as well as numerous forts associated with the life of Shivaji Maharaj. Other places that draw tourists are Verul and Ajintha caves, Devgiri fort, Bibi-ka-Maqbara, several places at Aurangabad and the Hazur Sahib Gurudwara at Nanded. Another attraction is the ‘City of Dreams’ Mumbai – home to Bollywood, shopping capital of the country and a city of colonial landmarks.
