Delhi is the capital of India – a city and a union territory in northern India. Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. The three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Delhi – Qutb Complex, Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb are among the finest examples of Indo-Islamic architecture. Another prominent landmark of Delhi is India Gate, along with several famous places of worship of various religions. Akshardham is a major tourist attraction in the city. Temples like Laxminarayan Temple, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Lotus Temple and ISKCON Temple as well as Mosques like the Jama Masjid attract many devout followers. Delhi is also a hub for shopping of all kinds.
A 4-hour drive from Delhi, down southeast into the state of Uttar Pradesh, Agra lies on the banks of the river Yamuna. splendid Mughal-era buildings, most notably the Tāj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Agra is included on the Golden Triangle tourist circuit, with Delhi and Jaipur and the city falls within the Braj cultural region. Other attractions are I’timād-Ud-Daulah, Akbar & Mariam’s Tombs, Chīnī kā Rauza Rām Bāgh, Mehtāb Bāgh, Keetham Lake, the Mughal Heritage Walk and Paliwal Park (Hewitt Park). From the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to the Mankameshwar Temple, there are several places of worship in the city.
